COMMON QUESTIONS PARENTS ASK ABOUT MARTIAL ARTS CLASSES
When parents explore martial arts for their child, many of the same questions come up. Understanding how classes are structured helps families feel confident before getting started.
Will My Child Be in Class With Adults?
No. Classes are always age-appropriate. Teaching a five-year-old is very different from teaching a teenager or an adult, which is why martial arts programs are structured similarly to school systems.
At Championship Martial Arts – Kenosha, students are grouped by age, rank, and skill level to ensure the best learning environment.
-
Ages 4–6 train in a dedicated Little Dragons program
-
Ages 7–12 train in youth-specific classes
-
Teens and adults train together in age-appropriate programs
Children are never mixed into adult classes.
Are There Different Levels Within Each Age Group?
Yes. As students progress, classes are further divided by experience and rank. Beginners train separately from intermediate and advanced students, allowing instructors to tailor lessons to each group.
Youth programs include:
-
Beginner (White Belt) classes
-
Early rank classes (Yellow and Orange Belts)
-
Intermediate and advanced classes
For ages 4–6, a rotating curriculum is used so all students—whether new or experienced—continue learning and building skills together.
How Often Do Students Advance in Rank?
Students typically progress every three to six months, depending on consistency, effort, and skill development. Advancement happens when students are ready, not based on a fixed timeline.
This ensures progress is meaningful and earned.
What Happens If We Miss a Class?
Martial arts training offers flexibility that many team sports do not. If a child misses a scheduled class due to a school event, family obligation, or activity, they can simply attend another class that week.
This flexibility makes martial arts easier to fit into busy family schedules.
A Structured Yet Flexible Program
Martial arts training is different from traditional sports. There are no fixed seasons, no bench time, and no penalties for missed practices. Students train at their own pace while receiving structured instruction and consistent support.
