We are in the absolute thick of summer right now. The sun is out, the weather is beautiful, and neighborhoods all across Kenosha are packed with children riding bikes, playing in front yards, and enjoying their break. We want to share a deeply moving, chilling real-life story from our sister academy that completely shatters that illusion and serves as a massive wake-up call for our local community.
“Sensei, What You Do Matters”
On a recent Saturday, one of our locations hosted a free community stranger danger workshop. A local family decided to attend, thinking it was simply a proactive parenting opportunity to give their young daughter some basic safety boundaries. She had a fantastic time, learned a few core situational awareness habits, and her parents officially signed her up for our regular program.
What absolutely nobody could have anticipated was what happened less than 24 hours later.
On Sunday afternoon, while playing on her very own front lawn, a stranger pulled up in a vehicle and attempted to abduct her.
Instead of freezing in a state of panic, this brave young girl instantly channeled her training. She did absolutely everything she was taught to do at our seminar just one day prior. She set immediate physical boundaries, used her voice like a shield to draw attention, and executed her escape plan perfectly. Recognizing that he had lost the element of surprise and that this child was trained to fight back, the predator sped off right away.
The very next morning, the mother walked into the dojo, approached the head instructor, and broke down in tears. She said, “Sensei, what you do matters. I cannot even fathom what might have happened to my family if we hadn’t attended that workshop on Saturday.”
Confronting the Reality of Youth Safety
We understand there will always be naysayers online who look at national statistics and point out that the vast majority of childhood abductions are carried out by someone the child already knows.
